Qualche tempo fa si scriveva su questo forum a proposito del fatto che Barloworld sarebbe stato il più grosso sponsor per la partenza da Londra, supponendo appunto che lo facesse per ottenere l'invito alla Grand Boucle per la stessa ragione.
Vi risulta confermata questa cosa? ____________________

Secondo me alla fine al Tour chiamano solo Agritubel e Astana, il sono sempre stati piuttosto restii a dare inviti, anche perchè solitamente le wild card servono ad aggiungere combattività, e al Tour ognuno si presenta per dare il massimo e non si risparmia mai.
Qualora decidessero di chiamare qualcun altra squadra vedo favorite la Barloworld (prologo in Inghilterra) e la Relax (Mancebo, Santi Perez e Sevilla sono corridori che possono fare molto bene).

la relax non credo proprio abbia chance di essere invitata, visto che i suoi leader sono tutti reduci da OP (sevilla, mancebo, hruska) o da squalifiche (santi perez).

Barloworld dreams of Tour de France
Team Barloworld has moved up to number one in the UCI's Europe Tour rankings and now leads the other Professional Continental teams. Team manager Claudo Corti is very proud of that and optimistic for the future, even casting his eyes to the Tour de France.
"We've done really well in the first part of the season and the UCI rankings are proof of that," Corti said. "We've had three riders out of action with serious injuries to (Kanstantin) Siutsou, (Diego) Caccia and (Mauricio) Soler, but first place in the UCI Europe Tour standings awards the efforts of the whole team: both that of the quality riders in the Barloworld team this year, and the professional work of the staff and management."

Astana, Agritubel, and Barloworld join 18 pre-selected teams

Tour de France organizers Amaury Sports Organization (ASO) announced Wednesday the three wildcard teams for the 94th edition of the race, which starts in just over one month. 21 total teams will begin in London on July 7. The eighteen ProTour teams announced December 12, 2006, will be joined by Astana, Agritubel, and Barloworld, thereby bringing the total number of riders to 189 (nine riders per team).
Astana, which was one of two ProTour teams along with Unibet.com not previously guaranteed entry into the race, is the nineteenth ProTour team set to participate. The less fortunate Unibet.com, a team caught in the middle of an ongoing conflict between ASO and the UCI, was not awarded a wildcard spot.
Astana boasts two overall favorites including last year's Tour of Spain winner Alexandre Vinokourov, who sat out in 2006 after his Liberty Seguros team was suspended due to several of its riders participating in the Operacion Puerto doping affair. Vinokourov was not implicated in the scandal that affected his teammates. Andreas Kloden, a previous two-time overall podium visitor while riding for T-Mobile, is another overall contender.
The biggest surprise invitee was Barloworld, one of two non-ProTour teams on the roster. The team includes well-known sprinter Robbie Hunter of South Africa and others like Italian Fabrizio Guidi, Russian Alexandre Efimkin, and Columbian Felix Rafael Cardenas Ravalo, who won a stage in the 2001 Tour de France. The South African team has financial and organizational ties to London, where the opening prologue will launch the three-week Tour.
Team Manager Claudio Corti was thrilled with the selection. "Obviously we're very happy with ASO's decision and very thankful that they've recognized the qualities of our team and our professionalism," said Corti. "The project we've been working on for two years has everything in place to take to the highest level. From an organizational point of view, I believe we've already shown that we work to the highest standards. We've always kept our standards very high and focused on quality young riders that are showing their worth, and on more experienced riders who have already obtained impressive results."

Corti was keeping the team's chances in perspective. "We know we can't compete for the big objectives in the race but we're sure we can play a key role in the racing. The enthusiasm of our riders will be extra motivation so that we put ourselves in the spotlight in the most important race in the world." Corti named two director sportifs, Alberto Volpi and Valerio Tebaldi and said it will soon select its nine riders from a list of twelve candidates already named.
The selection of French team Agritubel was less of a surprise.
"We have the concern of supporting French cycling," said Jean-François Pescheux of ASO according to Reuters. "This team had an excellent first Tour de France in 2006 with a Pau stage win with Juan-Miguel Mercado." Mercado is one of several strong Spanish-speaking riders on the team. Agritubel will likely include key French riders such as Nicolas Vogondy and Nicolas Jalabert on its roster to race their home Grand Tour.
Pescheux told Reuters ASO reviewed twelve candidates for the wildcard spots and chose three very professional teams. "Those teams that do not have at their center a potential winner of the Tour de France have riders capable of animating many stages.

Il Team Barloworld al 94° Tour de France: appuntamento a Londra!
La notizia attesa da tempo è finalmente arrivata quest'oggi attraverso l'annuncio ufficiale della ASO, la società che gestisce ed organizza il Tour de France. Il Team Barloworld è stato ammesso a partecipare al 94° Tour de France che scatterà da Londra il 7 luglio per concludersi a Parigi il 29 luglio.
Le altre squadre invitate dagli organizzatori francesi sono: Agritubel, Ag2r Prèvoyance, Astana, Bouygues Tèlècom, Caisse d'Epargne, Cofidis le Crèdit Par Tèlèphone, Crèdit Agricole, Team CSC, Discovery Channel, Euskatel-Euskadi, Francaise des Jeux, Gerolsteiner, Lampre-Fondital, Liquigas, Team Milram, Predictor-Lotto, Quick Step-Innergetic , Rabobank, Saunier Duval - Prodir e T-Mobile Team.
"Inutile dire - spiega Claudio Corti , team manager della Barloworld - che siamo molto soddisfatti di questa decisione e grati alla ASO per aver riconosciuto il valore del nostro impegno e della nostra professionalità. Il progetto che stiamo portando avanti da due anni ha i requisiti per proiettarci ai massimi livelli. Lo confesso!  Tra Cardenas e Soler, spettacolo assicurato "en la alta montaña".  In ogni caso se la meritavano veramente. Corti ha messo su una struttura di primissimo livello che non ha nulla da invidiare a buona parte delle squadre ProTour.

Gli altri sono tutti atleti di buonissimo livello e con risultati significativi e recenti alle spalle a partire da Hunter, Sioutsou, Cardenas, Soler ed Efimkin. Anche Cheula e Guidi hanno grandi chances.

Thomas oltre che essere l'unico britannico potrebbero portarlo per il prologo.
Concordo che hanno la possibilità di portare una squadra competitiva su tutti i terreni: i due colmbiani in salita, hunter in volata, efemkin e cheula nelle tappe miste.
direi che i sicuri sono cardenas, soler, efimkin, hunter, guidi, cheula.

la barloworld ha un livello medio di corridori impressionante, e non vedo l'ora di vedere sulle montagne i loro scalatori + rappresentativi!

Su Augustyn condivido. E' senz'altro fortissimo però, a soli 20 anni, ha bisogno di maturare in tutta tranquillità e fare un minimo esperienza prima di affrontare un Tour de France.
