LTDL 2010 PROMISES A GREAT RACE!

KUALA LUMPUR - 15th Edition of Asia’s premier cycling event, Le Tour de Langkawi 2010 is back! With a new look inspiring change and a better future under the organization of the Ministry of Youth and Sport. Le Tour de Langkawi 2010 was officially launched by the Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Y.B. Dato’ Razali Haji Ibrahim.
The Tour which was first introduced in 1996 has reached the highest status since the first edition and for 2010; it is graded again as a Hors Class (2.HC) race by the International Cycling Union (UCI) - equivalent to the prestigious status of several major races in Europe.
Organized Ministry of Youth and Sports, together with the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) while the Prime Minister as the Patron of the event. Le Tour de Langkawi 2010 is scheduled to take place from 1st to 7th of March 2010, involving seven stages and covering a total distance of 1,001.8 km.
The race will go through seven states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Malaka, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and two Federal Territories; which are Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur. The route selection this time based on various factors, including technical aspects, logistics, tourism and sponsors, involves 13 venues including a new venue in the history of the LTDL organization at Parit Sulong in the state of Johor.

The seven stages are:
1 Kota Bharu – Kuala Berang (174.5km)
2 Kuala Terengganu – Chukai (182.9km)
3 Pekan, Pahang – Mersing, Johor (144km)
4 Mersing, Johor – Parit Sulong, Johor (163.5km)
5 Muar, Johor – Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan (140.3km)
6 Putrajaya, WP – Genting Highlands (103.9km)
7 Kuala Kubu Baru – Dataran Merdeka (loop x6) (92.8km)
This new route will cause a stir because riders will have to pedal against the winds of the South China Sea, especially in Stage 2 and Stage 3, while Stage 4 will test their endurance where riders have to pedal through the longest distance under the hot sun in this Tour.
As usual, the climbing route to ‘Hors status’ Genting Highlands on Stage 6 will be expected to determine which rider or team that could ultimately become the overall winner.
The Tour will have a total of 20 teams competing, consisting of 17 world-class teams with three (3) ProTour teams, five (5) Pro-Continental teams, five (5) Continental teams, four (4) foreign national teams and three (3) local teams with six riders each, are expected to be take part in the racing edition-15.
"Malaysia has succeeded in putting LTDL as one of the most prestigious cycling race in Asia, every year the Tour grows in recognition. In fact we can be proud of this achievement, raising the standard of event organisation to a professional world-class level and further enhance the development of sports in our country. "
"Organization of events such as this not only strengthens the sport, even more importantly contributes to generating income for the nation’s economy, in line with the government's intention to make Malaysia as an ideal destination for international sport events."
"Under the concept of a new economic model, the government is committed to develop the sports as a vibrant, productive industry contributing to the income of the country. This is also in line with Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the Prime Minister’s desire to see the development of sports industry by announcing that 2011 is the Year of National Sports Industry," said Dato’ Razali Haji Ibrahim in his speech at the launching path LTDL 2010, on this day.
Inspired by our former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, organizing the 15th Edition of this Tour will not escape from its original purpose, specifically to promote the name of Malaysia and promote tourism through sporting events.
The Ministry of Youth and Sport agreed that the concept of promoting an attractive destination, the riders who will cover all corners of the country will also help introduce interesting places and local food offered in the country. In addition to tourist destinations, LTDL can also attract more international audiences to our unique community values of various races, backgrounds and religions living in peaceful harmony which practices the spirit of tolerance in accordance with the concept of ‘1Malaysia’.
"The LTDL Organizing Committee has arranged this route covering 13 locations to help introduce our country from the angle of hospitality, cultural, racial harmony and tourism products that become our pride to the world community. The Ministry of Youth and Sport also hope like the years before, that the nation will continue to lend their support to this tour and I am confident that 2010 will LTDL received the same, " Dato’ Razali Haji Ibrahim added.
According to him, the extensive international media coverage will increase the country’s potential in the tourism sector and for 2010, a total 120 journalists and photographers, including 50 overseas travel writers is expected to cover the race.

Le Tour de Langkawi 2010
DRAMA IN EVERY TURN

After 14 years, the 15th edition of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTDL) made history when for the first time ever, all the stages offers points for Sprint and King of the Mountain (KOM), scheduled from 1st to 7th of March 2010.
In previous editions, the winner of the Yellow jersey (overall winner) will only be determined at the end of the Hors category climb in Genting Highlands, 2010 tour however promises the Jersey titles will only be finalized at the stage at Dataran Merdeka.
This is part of the bold risk taken by the organizers on the adjustment made to the traditional Kuala Lumpur Criterium where the final stage will now see the race starting in Kuala Kubu Baru and ending at Dataran Merdeka.
"Many think that the finish line of a certain stage determines the overall winner, but not for the tour. In fact in every Sprint zone and KOM have its own drama. Various strategies and tactics planned by the teams to collect all points on offer. Therefore the LTDL 2010 route that we’ve planned offers points (Sprint and KOM) until the final stage. This will clearly add more competition, other than the usual breakaway and pursuit along the route," said Mr Mohamed Salleh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) LTDL 2010.
The route selection as announced recently is to ensure King Of Mountain Jersey (KOM) continue to be contested at each stage, unlike previous editions where the KOM points were only on offer at certain stages, sometimes the KOM Jersey holder can easily secure the jersey until the penultimate stage in Genting Highlands.
Malaysia National Cycling Federation President, Haji Abu Samah Abdul Wahab also gave a thumbs-up on the route selected for LTDL 2010.
"In terms of technical, this is the preferred route for the riders because it gives them the challenge to demonstrate their ability, not only forcing the riders to push further, but also to choose their goals more wisely, as a stage winner, Sprint leader or KOM leader. " Only the riders and teams who really organize their race strategies and tactics from the beginning until end will only be crowned the Overall Winner at the end of the race later" said Abu Samah.
Abu Samah also added that the route in 2010 will be an advantage to local riders as it opens the opportunity for them to compete with foreign riders in the race."The performance of our riders in recent years have steadily grown from strength to strength especially for our sprinters and it’s not impossible in the first five stages they will make heads turn because this route provides a clear advantage, as shown in their victories in several races in and outside the country throughout this year, "said Abu Samah again.
What is clear is the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) as organizers LTDL 2010, is very serious in ensuring that we have a high-quality race, not just to ensure the excitement begins on the start until the finish line as unlike the previous editions.

The 15th Edition of 2.0 Hors Classe race involves seven stages:
Kota Bharu - Kuala Berang (174.5km);
Kuala Terengganu-Chukai (182.9km);
Pekan - Mersing (144km);
Mersing - Parit Sulong (163.5km);
Muar - Port Dickson (140.2km);
Putrajaya - Genting Highlands (103.9km)
Kuala Kubu Baru-Dataran Merdeka (92.8km),
covering a total distance of 1008.1km. A total of 120 riders from 20 teams including three local teams are expected to take part in Le Tour de Langkawi 2010.

CARDOSO LEADS FOOTON-SERVETTO LINE-UP FOR LTDL 2010

FOOTON-SERVETTO, previously known as Fuji-Servetto, will make their second appearance in the 15th edition of Le Tour de Langkawi 2010 (LTDL), 1-7 March.
Back again and registered at ProTour level, Mario Gianetti’s Footon- Servetto team for LTDL will be fronted by Manuel Cardoso, winner of the 2009 Portuguese national road race championship who just joined the team for the 2010 season.
Footon-Servetto has high hopes for 27-year-old Cardoso as he had won a record of seven victories while riding for Liberty Seguros team last year, which was disbanded before the end of the 2009 season. Cardoso started this year with a first time ProTour victory, winning Stage 3 of Tour Down Under, from Unley to Stirling (132km).
Even though Cardoso was competing alongside with big names like Cadel Evans and Alejandro Valverde in the tour; he successfully escaped in the last kilometre and arrived to the uphill finish to collect his first Pro Tour victory and also for the Team in their first Pro Tour race of the season. Cardoso, who began his professional career with team Carvalhelhos-Boavista in 2006, had several stage victories in the Volta a Portugal, Volta ao Algarve and Circuit du Lorraine.

Besides Cardoso, Footon-Servetto’s line-up also includes Matthias Brandle and Markus Eibegger from Austria, Pedro Merino and Rafael Valls from Spain, and Johnnie Walker (Australia). Cardoso is expected to ride with Valls, an expert climber who gave Footon-Servetto their first 2010 season victory when he won Stage 2 and clinched the third overall in the final general classification of the Tour de San Luis in Argentina, on January 19.

Another Spaniard is expected to strengthen the line-up against the challenging climb to the top of Genting Highlands this year is Pedro Merino, the Spanish rider won the Under 23 national championships in 2009. Merino, 22 years old, was a trainee for Fuji-Servetto last year and expected to be ready for the challenge in LTDL 2010.
Two new faces from Austria signed up with Footon-Servetto this season is Brandle, national individual time trial champion who gain professional experience with team ISTA in 2008 and Elk Haus, last year. Eibegger is the 2009 national road and mountain bike champion.
The only Australian rider listed in Footon-Servetto for this year’s LTDL is 23 years old Johnnie Walker, from Victoria who achieved domestic success in his country. Walker won Weelre Cycling Classic in 2006 and is expected to become the important driving force for Footon-Servetto, he ranked 26 overall in Le Tour de Langkawi 2008 when he was with South Australia-AIS. Walker is also part of the Australian national team who competed in the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart and raced in the Circuito Montanes in Spain and Tour of Britain.
With third place in the LTDL team classification last year, while their best rider Frederrik Kessiakoff took fourth place overall, Pro Tour team Footon-Servetto which is based in Muriedas Camargo, Spain is expected to be quite a force to be challenged in all categories of the 15th edition of this LTDL.

FOOTON-SERVETTO LINE-UP for LTDL 2010 : -
1. Matthias Brandle (AUSTRIA)
2. Manuel Cardoso (Portugal)
3. Markus Eibegger (AUSTRIA)
4. Pedro Merino (SPAIN)
5. Rafael Valls (SPAIN)
6. Johnnie Walker (AUSTRALIA)

The 15th edition of the UCI (Hors Category) stage race will take place from Kota Bharu - Kuala Berang (174.5km); Kuala Terengganu - Chukai (182.3km); Pekan - Mersing (145.6km); Mersin-Parit Sulong (163.5km); Muar - Port Dickson (116.9km) Putrajaya - Genting Highlands (102.8km) and Kuala Kubu Baru - Dataran Merdeka (133.7km), covering a total distance of 1019.3km.

A total of 120 riders from 20 teams including two local teams are expected to take part in the event, Le Tour de Langkawi 2010.

GIRO KING OF THE MOUNTAINS WINNER, RUJANO IS BACK WITH ISD-NERI

KUALA LUMPUR – AFTER a low-key performance last year in Malaysia, Pro Continental Team ISD-Neri aims to make an impact on their second appearance in Le Tour de Langkawi 2010 with a strong line-up with expert climber and winner of the Giro d’Italia 2005 King of Mountains jersey, José Rujano.

27 year old Rujano, from Venezuela, who came to Malaysia with Colombia-Selle Italia in 2006 and with Unibet.com in 2007, will be back for the 15th edition with the Lamprorecchio, Italy registered team along-side three riders who made their first appearance last year, Bartosz Huzarsky (Poland), Denys Kostyuk and Vitaliy Kondrut of Ukraine.

Their fellow Ukrainian teammate, Ruslan Pidgorny and sole Italian rider in the line-up, Pierpaolo Denegri will help strengthen the ISD-Neri squad this year.

Rujano will not need a formal introduction to local fans due of his performance with Colombia-Selle Italia in 2005, which is still remembered where he competed with Ryan Cox in the intense climb to the top of Genting Highlands.
Cox eventually won the stage and proceeded to win the 2005 overall title, Rujano’s outstanding performance in LTDL 2005 had made him the man to look out for, a few months later he helped Colombia-Selle Italia win Stage 19 and claimed the King of the Mountain Jersey in Giro d'Italia.
Rujano who had been the national time trial champion in 2007, is also the winner of Vuelta a Colombia and Vuelta a Venezuela last year.
After only focusing in South American races with team Gobernacion del Zulia, he had also represented world famous ProTour teams Quick Step-Innergetic in 2006, Unibet.com (2007) and Caisse d'Epargne (2008), Rujano will be one of the selected riders in the limelight in this year’s LTDL.
Alongside Rujano is 29 year old Polish rider, Huzarsky who ranked 34th overall in last year’s edition. The well experienced rider was with team MROZ and Intel Action before joining ISD last year.
Huzarsky won a stage in the Course de la Paix in 2003 and Baltyk-Karkonosze-Tour in 2005, and won the Mountains Classification in Tour du Pologne in 2005 and 2006. Among his other achievement was winning GP Dzierzoniowa, overall winner of Szlakiem Grodow Piastowskich and Szosami Zagłębia in 2008.
Another more experienced ISD-Neri rider is Pidgorny, the 33 year old won the GP Nobili in 2005, placed second in the Trofeo Matteotti 2006 and second overall in Tour of Austria 2009.
Kostyuk, 25, ranked 36th overall in LTDL 2009, previously was with team Chocolade Jacques-Wincor Nixdorf in 2004 and was familiar with races in Asia, such as winning Stage 3 of Tour of Qinghai Lake, China in 2006 with the Intel-Action team.
Teammates, Kondrut, 25, are expected to be the sprinter in the line-up with Italian rider, Denegri who’s just 23 years old.
Kostyuk, Kondrut and Denegri had raced in Tour de San Luis, in Argentina last January in early preparation and is expected to be ready for the challenge in Malaysia at the start of LTDL 2010, 1-7 March.

SENARAI PELUMBA ISD-NERI : -
JOSE RUJANO (VENEZUELA)
RUSLAN PIDGORNY (UKRAINE)
BARTOSZ HUZARSKY (POLAND)
DENYS KOSTYUK (UKRAINE)
PIERPAOLO DENEGRI (ITALY)
VITALIY KONDRUT (UKRAINE)

The 15th edition of the UCI (Hors Category) stage race will take place from Kota Bharu - Kuala Berang (174.5km); Kuala Terengganu - Chukai (182.3km); Pekan - Mersing (145.6km); Mersin-Parit Sulong (163.5km); Muar - Port Dickson (116.9km) Putrajaya - Genting Highlands (102.8km) and Kuala Kubu Baru - Dataran Merdeka (133.7km), covering a total distance of 1019.3km.

CHANGE IN DATE MADE IT HARD FOR US: SAVIO

KUALA LUMPUR - Gianni Savio, the well-respected manager of team Androni–Diquigiovanni has expressed his disappointment in not being able to participate in this year’s Le Tour de Langkawi 2010.
In a statement released out of the team’s office in Torino, Savio said that the main reason why his team will not be taking part this year was due to the change in date.
“The problem is that the new organization has changed the race date which is usually held in February in the past to 1st to 7th March - which is just two days before the Tirreno-Adriatico, the most important race in Italy after the Giro d'Italia. A world calendar race that we won last year with our leader Michele Scarponi,” said the always affable Savio.
“I am really sorry that the team will not to be able to participate in Le Tour de Langkawi because I like Malaysia very much and Le Tour de Langkawi has always been good to our team where we had always been a protagonist in the past. “
“Last year, we established another record by winning the Overall Individual Classification through Josè Serpa, the Overall Team Classification, the King of Mountains, also with Serpa and the Point Classification with Mattia Gavazzi. We also won five stages.”
“Last month, I came back from Argentina where we won four stages in Tour de San Luis - two with Alberto Loddo, one with Jackson Rodriguez and one with Luis Mate. We also won the Overall Team Classification and the second place with Josè Serpa in the Overall Individual Classification which was won by Vincenzo Nibali.”
“So we have begun the new season very well. It is always my philosophy to participate any race that we take part in with the best team so as to honour the race. I hope that next year Le Tour de Langkawi will return to the native date in February.”

Among the riders who made the headlines in LTDL were Hernan Dario Munoz, Jose Serpa, Ruslan Ivanov, Walter Pedraza, Alberto Loddo, Marlon Perez, Jose Rujano, Freddy Gonzalez, Ruber Marin, Fortunato Baliani, Wladimir Belli and Jamie Drew, who gave Savio’s team their first victory in Stage 2 LTDL 2000 in Setiawan.

DYMOVSKIKH LEADS KAZAKHSTAN IN LTDL
KUALA LUMPUR – IN their aim to amplify serious competition in the 15th edition of Le Tour de Langkawi 2010 (LTDL), Kazakhstan national team had arrived early not just for training, but also to adapt to the hot and humid Malaysian weather.
The team chose Port Dickson, in Negeri Sembilan as their training ground, arrived in the country earlier this week to ensure that they could be more prepared for the conditions than last year.
With less encouraging results recorded in LTDL 2009 where they came 10th in the Overall Team Classification, team manager Alexandr Nadobenko determines to seek more respected position in the field with their strongest team yet.
Leading the squad is Alexandr Dymovskikh, which began representing the national team at the age of 27 since 2004, made his first international appearance in the Milk Race, Ireland.
Dymovskikh has represented club teams of his country, Capec and Ulan, gained valuable experience racing around the Asian continent such as Tour of Qatar 2006 and Tour of Japan 2007. Winner of the team time trial in the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Dymovskikh was also the winner of the national road individual time trial (ITT) event in in 2007.
Dymovskikh is expected to ride alongside with his teammate of the Asian Games, 24 years old Dmitriy Gruzdev, a versatile racer who is expected to perform well on the slopes and climbs.
Gruzdev also experienced in Asian competition and was ranked fourth overall. In addition, he also helped the country ranked second overall in the Tour of Hainan 2008. Also a former racer of team Capec in 2006 and Ulan (2008), Gruzdev who ranked 44th in LTDL and 13th in Tour de Taiwan last year, also raced in Europe and was ranked 14th overall when racing in The Path of King Nicola, in Montenegro last year.
Another rider who is expected to shine is 24 year-old Roman Zhiyentavev, has represented Polygon-Sweet Nice, Indonesia in 2008.
Ranked 37th overall in the individual classification in LTDL 2009, Zhiyentayev began his career as a mountain-biker and finished third in the National Mountainbike Championships in 2007, he won the yellow jersey in Tour de Taiwan 2009 after winning Stage 2, and emerged as the best Asian rider in the tour.
The pursuit for the yellow jersey once again is definitely in the hands of Alexandr Shushemoin, the 23 year old was the best Kazakhstan rider during the climb to Genting Highlands in LTDL 2009. Shushemoin ranked 24th in the Genting stage last year, with the performance and increasing experience gained in the last season, including 7th overall in The Paths of King Nicole, he will be all geared-up this time.
Meanwhile, Tleubayev, is expected to be a contender in the sprint classification. The 23 year old rider has represented team Ulan in 2008 and has proven his ability by finishing third at the Tashkent Winter Competition (twice), in addition to that he was 10th in the Giro del-Belvedere (Italy) and fourth in Stage 3 Ronde del'Isard d'Ariège in France last year.
Another young rider is Nazar Jumabekov (23), who ranked 15th overall in The Paths of King Nicola and 33rd overall in LTDL last year.
Kazakhstan is among the national teams that decorated the early editions of the LTDL, since their last appearance in 1999, Kazakhstan only managed to place 10th overall in the Teams Classification last year, while their best rider, Shushemoin could only 23rd overall.

SOUTH AFRICA RELIES ON THE LEADERSHIP OF IAN MCLEOD IN LTDL 2010

SOUTH AFRICA is the loyal team who is no stranger to Le Tour de Langkawi since it was introduced and for this 15th edition of LTDL 2010, the team this year will be headed again by their experienced team captain, Ian McLeod.
Team manager Barry Austin, is very confident with the leadership of McLeod, who have already joined the past five editions of LTDL, Jaco Venter and Christoff Van Heerden, the line-up will also include talented riders, Christopher Jennings, Johann Rabie and Jay Thomson.
Leading the South African challenge is their senior rider, 30 year old, McLeod, who had also appeared with ProTour team Francaise des Jeux in LTDL 2007. McLeod’s experience will be valuable against the challenge that awaits them in LTDL.
Ranked 55th overall on his first appearance in 2001, McLeod returned with Francaise des Jeux in 2007 with better results in 16th overall, his best overall placing to date is 9th with the national squad in 2008. Although often challenged by the emergence of new riders in his country, McLeod proved that he is still capable when he won the African Continental Road Race in November last year.

McLeod, a climbing specialist, has represented HSBC team (2001-2004) and MTN (2008). Among the great success in his career is GP des Lys les Lannoy in 2004; winning a stage of Tour de la Manche 2004; champion of Pick n Pay (2003), Liberty Ride for Sight (2002) while his recent success is second overall in La Tropicale Amissa Bongo 2010 representing his current team, MTN.
Another rider to look out for is Venter, 23, who made his first appearance in LTDL 2008, and ranked 38th overall last year. Although he raced mainly in North America and Canada, Venter‘s greatness was proven when was chosen among the riders to represent the country in the B-23 World Championships in Varese, Italy.
Rabie, 23, is expected to help McLeod and Venter to pursue for the best overall team classification after gaining his first LTDL experience in 2009, ranking 27th overall.
Leading in the slopes is definitely sprint specialist, Christopher Jennings, 19, who will be attending LTDL with the title of South African Junior Champion, after proving his ability to compete with professional riders when he won Berge en Dale Super Classic on 1st February. Jennings who is also in the Under-23 National squad, surprised everyone when he won the 111 km final stage of the Tour de Pays de Vaud in Switzerland last year. He had also worn the King of the Mountian jerseys in vuelta al Besaya, Spain last year while his teammate, Shaun Nick Bester won the yellow jersey.
The rider who is expected to assist Jennings at the finish line is Van Heerden, the capable sprinter who won the B-25 Tour of Pennsylvania in 2008 with Konica Minolta. He had also won the yellow jersey after winning two stages in Tour of Hong Kong, Shanghai, and now represents the local Continental team, MTN.
Thomson, 24, a strong allrounder for MTN, the current U23 National TT Champion as well as the Elite African Continental Time Trial Champion is likely to shine at the finish line. Overall winner Tour of Egypt in 2008, we can expect a great performance from Thomson.
South Africa is among the faithful teams in LTDL sine the first edition in 1996. Their best results were recorded in 2000 and 2002 when the team ranked second overall.

PROTON CONTINUE AS OFFICIAL SPONSORS OF LTDL 2010

KUALA LUMPUR - Traditionally a strong supporter of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL), PROTON Holdings Berhad will again be a significant contributor to the success of the race, the biggest in Asia, which enters its 15th edition from March 1 to 7.

For LTdL 2010, PROTON Holdings Berhad will be providing 180 units of various PROTON models to be used as official cars for race officials, team managements and other crew throughout the seven-stages of the race.

PROTON will also be spicing up the action in the race which begins in Kota Bharu next Monday, with sponsorship of the PROTON blue jersey for the leader of the Asian riders' classification.

Apart from that, the national car manufacturer will also be putting up exhibition booths at each start and finish venue, while also distributing merchandise to spectators as part of the cavalcade run.

With a line-up of various PROTON car models throughout the race route, the tradition of PROTON's involvement with LTdL proves that the cooperation from both parties that began since the first race in 1996 has contributed towards the race being elevated and maintained at its current 2.HC status.

PROTON Holdings Sdn Bhd Chief Finance Officer, Azhar bin Othman handed over the sponsorship to the LTdL organisers yesterday at the PROTON Centre of Excellence in Shah Alam. Also present was deputy secretary general of the Youth and Sports Ministry Datuk Mohid Mohamed, LTdL 2010 chief executive officer Mohamed Salleh and Malaysian National Cycling Federation president Haji Abu Samah Abdul Wahab.

In his speech, Azhar said PROTON Holdings Berhad's sponsorship for LTdL is proof that the national car company supports the sports industry's effort to organize international sports tourism events in the country.

"PROTON hopes that the blue jersey that we sponsor for the best Asian rider will heat up the action in the race," said Azhar.

Since LTdL was introduced in 1996, PROTON has been a part of the large family by sponsoring various models and the volume has even reached as high as 260 units of cars in 2003. As among the traditional sponsors in LTdL, PROTON has also sponsored several jerseys contested in LTdL such as the spinters jersey and the Asian rider's jersey prior to this.

The presence of PROTON in the Cavalcade convoy also usually receives overwhelming response from the public at start and finish venues as well as all along the race route. Apart from gaining the attention of the public, PROTON's convoy has also managed to introduce and promote several of their new models, along with some luxury sports car models from Lotus.

Race paraphernalia from PROTON such as t-shirts, pens, note books and caps are also very popular among spectators, as their booths at start and finish venues are usually horded by the public.

The 15th edition of the LTdL this year is organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports with assistance from the Malaysian National Cycling Federation and has been granted hors category status by the International Cycling Union (UCI). The race comprises seven stages which are Kota Bharu - Kuala Berang which covers 174.5km, followed by Kuala Terengganu - Chukai (182.3km); Pekan - Mersing (145.6km); Mersing-Parit Sulong (163.5km); Muar - Port Dickson (111.5km) Putrajaya - Genting Highlands (102.8km) dan Kuala Kubu Baru - Dataran Merdeka (133.7km), with a total distance of 1013.9km.

As many as 120 cyclists from 20 teams, including two local teams will contest the race.
