Valverde, Contador e Menchov a Mallorca
Alberto Contador (Astana), Denis Menchov (Rabobank), Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne) e Oscar Pereiro (Caisse d'Epargne) saranno le stelle del Challenge de Mallorca di quest’anno, come ha confermato l’organizzazione di Mallorca, dove si terrà la cinque giorni di gare dal 10 al 14 febbraio.
Saranno anche presenti il tedesco Andreas Kloden (Astana) ed il francese Sandy Casar (La Francaise des Jeux) alla Challenge delle Isole Baleari, che darà il via alla stagione professionistica in Europa.
Organizzato dalla Unisport Consulting, il Challenge de Mallorca celebrerà la diciassettesima edizione e farà il suo debutto con la sua nuova squadra, la kazaka Astana, l’ultimo vincitore del Tour de France Alberto Contador che aveva lasciato la Discovery Channel che ha chiuso l’attività a fine 2007. Contador è arrivato all’Astana insieme al direttore sportivo Johan Bruyneel, al corridore tedesco Andreas Kloden, allo spagnolo Toni Colom e all’americano Levi Leipheimer. Kloden e Colom saranno anch’essi presenti al Challenge de Mallorca.
Oltre alla manifestazione di Mallorca, il russo Menchov, due volte vincitore della Vuelta a España, guiderà la Rabobank alla Vuelta a Andalucia e alla Vuelta a Murcia in preparazione ai suoi principali obiettivi che saranno il Giro d'Italia ed il Tour de France.
I portacolori della Caisse d'Epargne Pereiro e Valverde inizieranno la loro stagione a Mallorca. Dopodiché Valverde si preparerà a difendere la sua affermazione del 2007 alla Vuelta a Murcia. Entrambi gli spagnoli si apprestano ad affrontare una stagione particolarmente importante nelle loro rispettive carriere professionali, dopo un tumultuoso 2007 per entrambi, anche se Pereiro ha concluso l’anno con l’aggiudicazione definitiva del Tour de France 2006.
Saranno diciotto i team che parteciperanno alla Challenge de Mallorca, comprese le tre squadre UCI ProTour spagnole, ovvero la Caisse d'Epargne, l’Euskaltel-Euskadi e la Saunier Duval-Scott, oltre a sei Professional Continental e due team Continental. Inoltre, Joan Llaneras guiderà il team della nazionale su pista.

CHALLENGE OF MALLORCA (10-14/02)
Alejandro Valverde will lead the team Caisse d’Epargne that will take part in the XVIIth edition of the Challenge of Mallorca. The following riders will also compete in the race: David Arroyo, Arnaud Coyot, Vicente García Acosta, Joan Horrach, Vladimir Karpets, Pablo Lastras, David López, Alberto Losada, Luis Pasamontes, Fabien Patanchon, Oscar Pereiro, Fran Pérez, Joaquím Rodríguez, José Joaquín Rojas and Xabier Zandio.
This afternoon, after a six hours training session with his team-mates of Caisse d’Epargne, Alejandro Valverde was satisfied: “I am very pleased for being in Mallorca together with almost all the riders who will form the part in 2008 (except the ones who competed in the Tour Dow Under. The weather is very nice and that is excellent for training. I feel really motivated to start the season and I am hungry for competing again and I hope that thanks to José Joaquín Rojas capacity as a sprinter we will have the possibility to win something here.”

Questo è dovuto al fatto che non c'è l'obbligo di fare tutte e 5 le prove con gli stessi corridori(che quindi possono variare da una giornata all'altra)se ricordo bene,per cui poi alla fine si tiene conto nella generale solo di coloro che prendono parte a tutte e 5.

Confermato .Tra gli italiani da segnalare anche il 6° posto di Manuele Mori e poi tra le posizioni buone di quest'oggi troviamo anche David Herrero(8°) e Stijn Devolder(10°).

Forse è un pò troppo presto... Al Fiandre mancano quasi due mesi. Magari mi bissa l'Het Volk che sarebbe già un ottimo risultato. ____________________

Eh eh, solitamente le sua azioni non vanno in porto, e servono solo per sprecare energie (e per lo spettacolo, ovviamente!)...  ...un po' mi ricorda Ignatiev.
Entrambi farebbero bene a partire in vista dell'ultimo km, laddove possibile, piuttosto che troppo prima. ____________________

The rider of Team Caisse d’Epargne José Joaquín Rojas concluded the work his team-mates achieved by being the fastest in the sprint of the 3rd stage counting for the Challenge of Mallorca, Pollença-Port of Alcudia (168,4 km), where he defeated Giovanni Visconti (QST) and Philippe Gilbert (FDJ).
"This is the victory of a whole team," declared José Joaquín Rojas, moved after he came down the podium where he received his first bouquet of the season. "My team-mates of Caisse d’Epargne deserve ten out of ten! They went with almost all the breakaways and in the last kilometres they perfectly dominated the situation thanks to the fast rhythm Joaquím Rodríguez and Vladimir Karpets imposed. With two kilometres to go, Alejandro Valverde realized a really exceptional job to place me ideally and to launch me the sprint. I just had to conclude his generous effort and I thank him so much for what he did for me. The stage of today, with some mountains to climb, suited me better than the previous staged. We will try to win again tomorrow and also fight for the General Classification. I am the second by now, in same time as Gilbert, but it will be difficult to precede him because the Belgian is a very solid leader who, just like me, prepared himself very well in Australia ", concluded Rojas.

In cima all'ultima salita Contador ha un vantaggio di 1,50 su 3 inseguitori e 2,40 sul gruppo.

Contador è stato ripreso a pochi chilometri dal traguardo. Poco male dato che ha vinto Gilbert.

Per Contador non si può dire che questa giornata verrà ricordata tra quelle migliori: dopo la fuga tappa sfumata per il ritorno del gruppo e nello stesso tempo l'ASO che decide di escludere l'Astana dal Tour.
Intanto si legge che Rojas,vincitore ieri,è finito a terra nella volata finale anche se non so quali siano le sue condizioni.

The young rider of the team Caisse d’Epargne , José Joaquín Rojas, who was the victim of a crash during the sprint of the fourth stage of the Challenge of Mallorca, was transported after the race to the hospital of Inca (Mallorca).
Several abrasions and a fracture of the right shoulder blade were diagnosed. A bandaged was fixed to immobilize the shoulder. The rider will have to wear it for about three or four weeks.
Two stitches were applied in an interdigital part of the right hand (between the 4th and the 5th finger).

Accidenti,è andata male allora.Tra l'altro aveva dimostrato di essere in buona forma soprattutto nel percorso che poi avrebbe portato alla Milano-Sanremo,obiettivo che adesso diviene compromesso.

ALEJANDRO VALVERDE FINISHED THE THIRD OF THE FIFTH AND LAST STAGE OF THE CHALLENGE OF MALLORCA
The Caisse d’Epargne riders tried to take advantage of the last stage of the Challenge of Mallorca, raced today between Magaluf and Palmanova upon the distance of 147 kilometres to get a second stage win.
After only 1 km, Luis Pasamontes was the first to break together with 4 more riders (De La Fuente, Verbrugghe, Mate and Goesinnen). The gap with the bunch reached 4’ before this one began to react and caught the breakers in the last difficulty of the day, the Coll des Tords. After that some other riders attacked and amongst them David López, but nobody was able to avoid a massive sprint. The Belgian rider Gert Steegmans (QST) won ahead of Thomas Vaitkus (AST) and Alejandro Valverde.
“The sprint was very fast but considering the fact that the stage was so hard today it was not as difficult as the other days to be well placed before the sprint was launched”, explained Alejandro Valverde after he crossed the line. “I was the fourth when we came out of the curve. Gilbert was still ahead after he had tried to attack and then came Vaitkus, Steegmans and myself. When these two accelerated, I was in Vaitkus’ wheel but they made a small gap and then it was no longer possible for me to beat them.
I am going home satisfied after competing in the Challenge because my condition is good and I am very motivated for the continuation of the season. On February 24 I will take part in the Classique de Haut Var in France and a few days later in the Vuelta a Murcia.”
